We founded Energy Learners with two goals in mind: provide the best possible education for students by connecting families with certified teachers, and provide certified teachers with the opportunity to reach more students and supplement their income.
As a teacher for more than 20 years, I’ve connected many families seeking supplemental instruction for their children with qualified teachers in my network, and oftentimes provided that instruction myself. Today, as a teacher with school-aged children of my own, I hear from friends from around the country who need to find that “just right” teacher for their child but are unable to find the right match.
The parent searching for a teacher to provide Wilson or Orton-Gillingham–but unable to find a trained teacher within 30 miles of her home; a friend who needed a teacher who understood how her child’s anxiety impacted executive function and the ability to learn math; another parent searching for an AP Calculus teacher for her child–but unable to find one in her community.
While I knew teachers in my network who could provide a phone consultation, geography and distance often meant that there was no viable way for these qualified, certified teachers to provide high quality instruction from afar.
March of 2020 changed all of that. Suddenly, in the midst of a global pandemic, school buildings were closing, and educators did the unimaginable; we reinvented education. In most states, this happened in less than two weeks. And yes, there were glitches. But something amazing happened- the barrier to reaching kids at a distance disappeared. And while some kids struggled with this transition, others flourished.
Out of this spirit of reinvention, Energy Learners was born. Recognizing that we could now connect families who needed one-to-one or small group instruction for their children with certified teachers from across the country, we built Energy Learners–an online platform to make that dream a reality.
Using the Energy Learner platform, families view certified teacher profiles, meet candidates through quick 5 minute introductions and choose the right educator for their child. Certified teachers set their own hours, decide what grade levels and expertise areas to teach based on their credentials, and earn extra income they deserve.
